Vision

AWA ÄTUU: A Warm Embrace

AWA ÄTUU was born in a seasoning of longing. Longing for something that will lasts forever. Longing for clothing that not only told stories but held stories in their textiles and weaving techniques. A brand born to give color to the journey from girlhood to womanhood. A brand created to be a noisemaker, eccentric, bold. Each item carries secrets of traditional hand embroidery and sustainably sourced textiles woven from all the corners of Africa. AWA ÄTUU is a salute to stories told and stories being made.

FOUNDER

ADWOA-BRITTNEY BOATENG

Our Founder, Adwoa-Brittney Boateng, dreamt of AWA ÄTUU as she left girlhood to enter womanhood. Born in America and raised in a Fante, Ewe, and Asante Ghanaian household stewarded by women, she was constantly surrounded by fine fabrics, hand beaded dresses, and jewelry from all over Africa. She desired a clothing brand that used eccentric colors and bold textures sustainably sourced across Africa to welcome her into her new coming of age season. She knew other women desired to shed off their old selves and begin curating a wardrobe of textiles made to last just as the women before her created. She took from her Parsons design experience and inspiration from living in South Africa, Ghana, Togo, Benin and more to create the pieces we know and love today.
